Information You're Finding!
The notion Apple Watches are useless is down to the factors which raise the crazy price tag, cause a lot of distraction and importantly establish Apple Watches as collectors watch.
Apple Watches Are Pointless?
If it would make you feel any better, ours did too when we found out about it. So, to put the minds to ease, we surveyed a pool of 100 people.
It was totally random, and no one was picked on any prior established basis. The results that came back were more than astounding.
How so??? Well…
Apple Watches: The Best You Can Have?
There is no denying Apple is the summit of the tech world. Since the iPhone’s release in 2007, Apple hasn’t stopped coming up with products that don’t blow out the competition. Even if they are similar to their predecessors, they have always managed to make their name.
People buy them. They wait for them. They talk about them.
So when Apple deep dived into the smartwatch business, it was to no one surprise that their watches established themselves as an Industry leader. It was APPLE’S WATCH after all.
You don’t question about Quality of their products.
That’s what I thought before hearing my friend say: Apple Watches are useless.
Although I didn’t get to ask “Why,” his remarks were more than enough for me to find the answers on my own.
Apple Watches Are Too New!
Due to the enormous customer base, Apple Watches aren’t confined to a few hands. Every year millions of them are sold throughout the globe. Not all of them end up in the young hands.
If we were to segment buyers based on their age, people in their 60s would have a fair share of common ground. Even when it is not unheard of for the elderly crowd to struggle with new technology. So a question might arise: Why? Why does the elderly population make up a fair share?
As interesting as the premises surrounding the question is, it’s not relevant for us to deduce any conclusion. Although, a superficial claim can be made: Apple Watches are relatively expensive. So the younger generation has a hard time affording them, unlike their elders.
A better question would be: Why do the majority of the elderly population seem to have reservation about it?
Because that’s what we found out! Of the 100 we surveyed, there were 30 reaching a twilight period of age, and of that 30, almost 75% of them spoke against it. They were not a fan.
And honestly, their reasons did kind of make sense…
Despite living at the pinnacle of information there is no lie we are too dependent on devices. Our lives are tangled up within the digital world with no escape.
Go outside, preferably in a hustling bustling city, and walk on the sidewalks. You would feel more lonely there than inside the empty home. Do you know why? People don’t talk. They would much rather prefer you’d reach them digitally than in person.
Human to Human interaction without the special medium of a smart device is not rare. It is almost non-existent.
And our elders see that.
The majority we talked to complained they feel Apple Watches are useless because it is another device meant to enslave our time. Despite its many features it doesn’t seem to justify its price or even worth as a piece of tech.
“A fancy waste of time” – one of the person who took the survey said.
He was not right.
He was not wrong.
He had an opinion that showed there would always be contrasting thoughts to ours…
Apple Watches Not For Young
As much as we wouldn’t want to hear it from our parents, our phones have made us waste time that otherwise could be better invested. Yes, in doing so, they have eased the communication gap, too. It’s not easy to ignore the downside.
And smartwatches aren’t any different from smartphones. If anything, they are more distracting.
Young people have them everywhere. They take them everywhere. Even when they shouldn’t. Or it’s not necessary. You would see a person who happens to be the owner of an Apple Watch wearing it with pride.
And I say that with surety because I did that. I still do sometimes.
Even when I shouldn’t have it on me, I would, and it would distract me one way or another. I didn’t want to admit it when I first heard it from others, but with realization, it did dawn on me how I never thought about it.
Attention span isn’t something all of us can control. Within the right environment, it can be prolonged. With high-tech devices that are too fancy and too cool, it slides down the hill. As it keeps happening, unfortunately.
Apple Watches Too Expansive
Apple is the epitome of an extravagant lifestyle. There is no chance you’d ever catch an Apple Product priced cheaply or even on a budget. Which is fine, they are Apple, after all. People aren’t buying the smartwatch from Apple they are buying the name Apple that happens to come with a smartwatch.
However, not everyone can afford it, and that’s where the problem arises or vanish – difficult to tell apart. Apple Watches cost too much to justify for what it is, just another piece of tech that is a want and far from any need.
Even people who happen to suffer from health issues shared the same sentiment. For them, the price tag wasn’t convincing enough to buy an Apple Watch when they have other affordable options like Fitbit & WHOOP.
Are they wrong to think like that?
Not for me!
Apple Watch Not The Best Watch
It was a shock to hear it, but evidently many believe Apple Watches aren’t the best smartwatches being made. They said and I’d quote: “I can do pretty much anything an Apple Watch can do with my Fitbit Versa 3.”
A bold statement?
Indeed. Although, true to an extent.
For not everyone would be using every feature Apple has added. Some people just buy smartwatches to tell the time, check the calendar, see the weather, or get notifications. They don’t want anything more.
And can we blame them?
I would not. My parent does the same so I do understand the sentiment. Either way, Apple products do happen to have a rather sinister reputation when it comes to battery life, and if I am not remembering wrong one of the guy did say:
“I can’t be charging my smartwatch every 4 hours in a day.”
And yes, we are aware of the battery heck, we have covered it few days ago.
Apple Watch Is Collectors Watch
It would be wrong to state Apple products aren’t iconic. People treasure them. Some of them are even sold for a value far from what their actual price should’ve been. It is common. People love the brand. They love owning it. They seek familiarity with it.
Don’t believe me?
In 2015 Apple sold $17,000 gold Apple Watches. Even when, overall functionality wasn’t any different from their usual $1000 Apple Watch. People bought them in spades. All of them were gone not long before they were introduced.
If you are like me you would be saying: Were they crazy???
My answer is they were not, and that’s how it is, and Apple isn’t the only one to do it. Tag Heuer sold 330K special edition watch. Tissot had their on the shelves for $8,000. It happens, and it is normal.
But Why?
Well, because, they are collectors collecting the collectibles for their collections. Apple or any other brand doesn’t make them for normal people. Or even by mistake. They have an ideal customer in mind for it, and it’s not us, the common people. It’s people who are driven by their passion to collect watches even if they’d become obsolete not much later.
However, in the case of Apple Watches, since they are production of the richest company in the world known for luxury, there is a mindset within the general population, all their products are collectibles. This maybe isn’t right. It’s hard to deny cheaper options availability in the market putting up almost the same if not just the same performance.
“It’s a Rich people thing.
A Concluding Note: 50% People Are Right…
Like everything in life, not everything is made or meant for us. Somethings are just too much or too less for what is required at the time. Apple Watch happens to be subject to the same fate.
They aren’t the need of everyone.
They aren’t the want of everyone.
They aren’t the only smartwatch suffering from it.
