Ever since the first Apple Watch has been released in 2015 Apple has established itself the king of smartwatch world. Without doubt Fitbit sad but agonizing demise contributed to it a lot but it’d be harsh to attribute the success just to it. Apple always knew what they were doing and after almost 10 years they’ve shown why they’re indeed the best when it comes to claiming the throne.

Yes, their products are expansive and not everyone can afford them you’ve to agree the innovation standards the company has set are genuinely world class. Speaking of innovative methods Face ID was also one of the brightest reveal and not just because of its cool premise but the quality it holds.

Unfortunately, so far there has been little difficulty in translation from iPhone to Apple Watch here, and it this difficulty which restricts the Apple Watch. In simple words right now no Apple Watch is equipped with Face ID however there is scope to it and you don’t wanna miss it!

Scope Of Face ID Within Apple Watch Premises!

As we mentioned above there is no Face ID for you to put on your Apple Watch. So at this moment in time, the moment I’m writing this in year 2023, your only way to secure your Apple Watch is through a passcode.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t use Face ID and Apple Watch together. You can use both however to only unlock your iPhone. To better understand consider this: you are outside and its dusty so you thought it’d be better to put mask on. Now just as you stepped out you felt it’s little too sunny as well. While your first thought was to not do anything about it you couldn’t risk it so you went back and got sunglasses for yourself.

At this stage your face is almost 85% covered! Which means there is good chance your iPhone won’t recognize you now and you won’t be able to unlock your phone through Face ID.

What would you do now?

What you can do is set up the connection between your Apple Watch and Face ID in your iPhone to use it as a proxy to unlock your phone. And this right here is what we meant: there is scope for Face ID within the Apple Watch just not how you might’ve expected.

Requirements To Use Face ID Somehow?

To use Face ID with your Apple Watch you will have to first make sure your both iPhone and Apple Watch are eligible to do so. Because Apple has set some rules and you need to follow them:

• You’ll need an iPhone X or a newer model, and it should have iOS 14.5 or a more recent version installed.
• For Face ID functionality on an Apple Watch, you’ll require an Apple Watch Series 3 or a newer model, and it should have watchOS 7.4 or a more recent version installed.
• To set up your Apple Watch, you must first connect it to your iPhone.
• Both your iPhone and Apple Watch should have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, although they don’t necessarily need to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
• Your Apple Watch should also have a passcode set up, and wrist detection must be activated.
• For your Apple Watch to function properly, it needs to be worn on your wrist and unlocked.

How To Set Apple Watch For Face ID Showdown?

Once you would’ve taken care of these requirements your next step should be to head straight to your iPhone’s settings.

Select “Face ID & Passcode” and enter your passcode when prompted.

Scroll down until you find the option for “Unlock with Apple Watch” and toggle the switch next to your specific watch’s name.

If wrist detection is not already enabled on your Apple Watch, you will be prompted to enable it before proceeding.

Unlocking & Locking Use Face ID & Apple Watch

Next time your face will be brimmed with stuff and you can’t even see your own cheeks all you’d need to unlock your iPhone is to tap it to wake it up and then glance at it. The rest will be handled by Apple Watch – which by the way has to be on your wrist when you tries to unlock the iPhone.

In the happenstance that your iPhone gets unlocked and you didn’t want that you would get the option to reverse the deed. Because when your phone will get unlocked your Apple Watch will alert you with haptic feedback and message on screen with button saying ‘Lock iPhone.’

Although if you clicks on it to lock the device next time passcode will be required by iPhone!

“Why Can’t We Use Face ID To Lock Apple Watch?”

If you’re still harping on this idea here is what you need to know. The reason Apple still hasn’t released any Apple Watch with Face ID is that its impractical to do so. When we did paper on why Blood Pressure hasn’t made to wearable devices yet we learned that experts and scientists are working round the clock to integrate this feature in devices. So it’s safe to laziness is certainly not the reason here. But instead the inefficient need of the method that halts the progress.

Obviously it’s true that Face ID is much secure method to have on your devices. Apple has itself claimed many times how odds of unlocking a device using Face ID is 1 in 1,000,000. It is neither the important need nor the easiest task to give a small smartwatch the ability to compute millions of check points and store the data and keep it adaptable using Machine Language.

Now, of course things can take a turn and maybe in near future we will have smartwatches with facial recognition for now with what we’ve is okay.
