Information You're Finding!
Yes! Fitbit can work with Google Fit, but you would've to make account on Google's own Health Connect platform which will act as middlemen between your Fitbit health tracker and Google Fit.
What Is The Google Fit?
You can think of Google Fit as a universal health-tracking platform that blends data from many sources. So using it you can easily keep tabs on activities like walking, running, biking, swimming, and weightlifting It is a single set of APIs that blends data from multiple apps and devices.
Speaking from experience I don’t prefer to use apps like these, but just for the sake of testing it, when I did, I won’t lie it was a pleasant experience. Google has worked really hard to provide a seamless experience, the integration process is quite easy and if you know what you want to do, then you can also set up goals and compete against friends and family.
Fitbit & Google Fit Tangle
There is no doubt Fitbit has a long history of leaving its customer base a little letdown. Just recently we did a paper on how many widely available features like Airplane Mode and Fall Detection don’t make the cut in Fitbit devices. Blood Pressure is one outliner too but we can let this one pass, it’s not a common sight anywhere else as well.
However, at the same time, we can’t forget that Fitbit has also punched above its weight and brought to us some amazing functions like Water Lock for protection and integration with work equipment like Peloton.
So the matter of Google Fit and Fitbit hangs perfectly in between!
Although, you’d be pleased to know that this time Fitbit and your Google Fit (if you have made an account on it) can work together. Once again it is not because of Fitbit albeit with the help of a third-party application there is a workaround that you can use to make the connection.
How You Can Connect Google Fit With Fitbit?
As mentioned above there is no official way to connect your health tracker with your Google Fit account. It is not a surprise Fitbit hasn’t been really made an actual part of Google’s habitat. So what you can do is go for Health Connect.
For those of you who don’t know about Health Connect, it is Google’s official platform to sync, store, and analyze the tracked data (Or fetched from API) and this is how you can set it up:
- Launch the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
- From the Today tab of the app, locate and tap on your profile picture.
- Look for the option labeled “Health Connect” and select it.
- On the following screen, find the toggle switch for “Sync with Health Connect” and turn it on.
- A prompt will appear, and you should tap on “TURN ON” to proceed.
- Next, you will see a list of data fields that Fitbit can write to Health Connect. To sync all data fields, simply tap on “Allow all.”
- Confirm your selection by tapping on “Allow,” and once done, tap on “Done” to complete the process.
Note: At the moment Health Connect is under the Beta, so it is possible you might not be able to access legacy data on Google Fit using it.
Other Ways To Use Google Fit With Fitbit Trackers?
In the unlikely event that for you Health Connect doesn’t work then you can use these third-party applications FitToFit and Sync My Track. They don’t have anything to do with Google and you might even have to pay a one-time fee to use the service for an adequate amount of time. Or a monthly payment of as little as $5/month.
Using Sync My Track To Connect Google Fit and Fitbit Trackers
This particular app is available only for the Android users. So if you have iPhone I don’t think you need to read it, skep ahead. Anyways, moving on, the best way to move ahead is to download the Sync My Track Application on your phone, and then follow these steps:
- Create the account on Sync My Track.
- Once your account would be created. Ensure your desired tracker is selected. In our case, it is Google Fit. It will show a pop-up asking to sync all the data. Tap on proceed to synchronize.
This is it. Sync My Track will begin to sync your data from Fitbit platform and it will start appearing in Google Fit. Given there is option for both Free and Paid version, there is not much difference between the two. From what we have tested the main change is that it’s easier to sync the data on Paid version then Free one.
Using FitToFit To Connect Google Fit and Fitbit Trackers
Just like Sync My Track this application is also only available for the Android users. So, keep in mind proceeding forward. We’ve outlined the process to get you started and have your Fitbit data connected to Google Fit platform.
Step 1: Download and Install FitToFit
- Go to the Playstore on your Android device.
- Search for the FitToFit app.
- Download and install the FitToFit app.
Step 2: Sign In
- Open the FitToFit app.
- If you’re using it for the first time, you’ll need to sign in with your Fitbit account.
- Enter your Fitbit login details (username and password).
- Tap the “login” button.
Step 3: Authorize the App
- If it’s your first time using FitToFit, the app will ask for permission to access your Fitbit data.
- Allow the app to access your Fitbit data by tapping “yes” or “allow.”
Step 4: Choose Your Google Fit Account
- After signing in, you’ll see a dashboard.
- A pop-up box will appear, asking you to select your Google Fit account.
- Choose the Google Fit account you want to link to FitToFit.
- Continue to the next step.
Step 5: Transfer Your Fitbit Data
- On the dashboard, you’ll find a button that says “Transfer Data.”
- Tap this button to manually transfer your Fitbit data to Google Fit.
- Alternatively, you can enable the “AutoSync” feature if you want FitToFit to automatically transfer your data to Google Fit.
That’s it! You’ve successfully set up FitToFit to transfer your Fitbit data to Google Fit.
Certain Drawbacks Of Using Google Fit
One thing that we didn’t mention above is that there is a little problem with Health Connect. While it works fine for the most part, you can’t read the data from it on your Fitbit tracker.
So like imagine you have two smartwatches one is a Fitbit Versa 4 and the other is Google Pixel smartwatch your health data is stacked in Google Fit so while you can read your Fitbit data that would be stored in your Fit account from the Pixel watch, it is not possible for your Versa 4 to do the same for the data tracked from Pixel smartwatch.
“What If I Don’t Want To Use Google Fit?”
In this case I will suggest that you learn more about the Strava. Because not only does it help to sync between the two not friends platforms. It is also the platform itself. A perfect social sharing app for sports and fitness related activates.
There are also more applications, by the way, just like Strava. Which you can use as Google Fit’s alternative. Although if you are Apple or Samsung user and by user we mean that you have their phones then S Health and Apple Health are really perfect platforms. There is no need for a change.
